Catalyst Telecom acquires The CTI Authority, one of nation’s leading distributors of computer telephony products. The merger launches Catalyst into the computer telephony industry by allowing the company to become a distribution partner with Dialogic Corporation, the world’s leading provider of computer telephony products, including fax boards, IP telephony, speech technologies, switching and conferencing, and voice processing equipment. Further, the CTI Authority merger expands the Catalyst sales force with an office in New Jersey and adds several other product lines to Catalyst’s offering, including Artisoft and others.

Catalyst Telecom forms as a division of ScanSource, Inc., creating the first two-tiered distributor in the telephony industry to focus exclusively on resellers. Catalyst reaches an agreement with Lucent Technologies (now Avaya Communication) to distribute the company’s telephony products – including PBXs, key systems, telephone handsets, cabling and voice mail. This strategic alliance allows Catalyst to sell the leading telephony products in the industry.

ScanSource introduces its Professional Services Group (PSG), a team of wireless experts dedicated to helping resellers in the design and integration of wireless and mobile computing systems. In an effort to provide its reseller customers with total solutions, ScanSource rapidly expands into the distribution of point-of-sale (POS) products, initially through the acquisition of Alpha Data Systems, a POS distributor. Because ADC products are often used at the point-of-sale, the extension into the POS market forms a natural extension for ScanSource’s product offering.

Symbol and ScanSource Form Partnership
ScanSource forms a distribution agreement with Symbol Technologies, the industry’s largest provider of bar code scanners, wireless products and other devices. The partnership gives the distributor a firm foothold in the ADC market by linking ScanSource with a world-leading manufacturer of ADC products.

ScanSource is incorporated as a joint venture with Gates/FA Distributing, Inc., a distributor of personal computer products, and begins as a distributor of automatic data capture (ADC) products, including bar code scanners and bar code label printers. The company is the first to focus exclusively on selling bar coding products through the indirect value-added reseller (VAR) channel.
